Let the planning begin.....

B&B in the Great Smoky Mountains

and the Tail.....Love a challenge!

The Tail...

Here is the map of the trip. Somewhere around 1100 miles. I've learned a couple of things when planning a trip on a motorcycle.
1) Always plan to end a day at the start of the 'main event'. This way you are fresh and relaxed going into the main attraction of the ride.
2) When the 'event' is over miles, plan those days for the least amount of miles. You will want to spend on and off the bike (taking pictures, lunch, relaxing, taking in everything). Unless yours a Power Ranger biker, you want to enjoy the ride and immerse yourself in the culture and people. Power Rangers go so fast, they forget to enjoy what they are riding through.
3) On a multi day trip to a destination, do not pick really nice hotels. If you are getting in late at night, and leaving early in the morning, any bed will do. Say the $$$ for a nicer hotel, B&B, at a more relaxed location, where you can enjoy the amenities.

Here is the map of the trip(interactive).....should be a good one!

Much has changed in a year! In 2012 I was in the New England area, making my 2012 Nova Scotia Trip (see link here) easier from a travel standpoint.
Now being in the Mid-West, its time to look for new adventures! I have always wanted to have 'The Tail of the Dragon' on my list of places to visit. Now we can. As with all motorcycle trips, there is meaning behind the saying, 'Its not the destination, its the journey'.

Our trip will take us through Kentucky, Tennessee, Carolinas, and West Virginia. It will be a 4 day trip and hopefully I can plan as I did for Nova Scotia to have 'days end' exactly where they need to be based on feeling like we had a full day. Ruth will be flying in on Friday May 24 and the fun begins the Saturday with a straight shot through Kentucky to our first destination to position us for a Sunday ride through the Tail of the Dragon.....
